NEW EVENT: Steadfast Trust Autumn Social, Hastings/Battle, 10th/11th October 2009

Here’s a message from the good people over at The Steadfast Trust, the only charity working for the ethnic English community.

Dear Friends,

Just a brief reminder about the Steadfast Trust autumn social taking place this weekend – October 10th/11th. If you’re hoping to join us you’ll have to be quick but we can still fit a few people in. There’s a lot going off in the Hastings/Battle area as well as the social. Details are below…

Harold, Battle of HastingsSplendid English fare will be on offer when the Steadfast Trust joins historians, re-enactors and historical store holders in a Battle of Hastings re-enactment weekend next month.

The bill of fare on offer at the Steadfast Social will include main courses of chicken in honey glaze or sliced roast pork and prunes accompanied by peas, beans and wholemeal or oat bread and butter, and will be followed by a traditional English pudding of apple pie and fresh cream, a selection of cheeses including traditional Cheddar and goats cheese, nuts and dried apricots – food fit for the stomach and heart of a king, and of a king of England, too.

There will be lots to see and do over the weekend, apart from a celebration of all that is English.  On Friday October 9 there will be a market in Hastings Old Town, guided walks of haunted Hastings. On Saturday October 10 there will be a classic car show, a jewellery sale in aid of the lifeboat station, a whole range of walks and music, and on Sunday, October 11 there will be a rugby festival, the famous 1066 Hastings East Hill steps race and many more walks.  Events continue through to Sunday October 18.  Full details can be found on –

There will also be a wreath laying ceremony on the Saturday to remember the English dead and the trust will have many of its representatives there.  The venue for the Steadfast Social is the Abbey Hotel, Battle opposite the Abbey.  For further details or to book a place please contact Mark Taylor by email at: mark [at] butler-taylor.eclipse.co.uk or phone him on 0781 373 0925.

Hope to see you there.
