Pro-Farage candidate wins UKIP leadership

[spacer height=”10px”]Despite all the hype, UKIP’s small-c conservative membership eventually voted for the most obviously “respectable” leadership candidate.

Former intelligence officer Henry Bolton was today elected UKIP leader with 3,874 votes (29.9%), ahead of the anti-Islam campaigner Anne Marie Waters on 2,755 (21.3%). The party’s peculiar first-past-the-post, single ballot system – and the fact that there were seven candidates on the ballot paper, six of whom had a serious chance – meant it was always likely that the winner would have less than one third of the membership’s support.

Turnout was only 46.6%, reflecting the fact that many of those nominally listed as party members (and entitled to vote) have already quit UKIP and had no interest in its leadership contest.

Bolton had warned that a victory for Waters and her EDL backers would risk UKIP becoming some form of “nazi party”. He will now claim a clear mandate, since the two most obvious anti-Islam candidates (Ms Waters and GLA member Peter Whittle) had only 32.2% between them, so even with a transferable vote Ms Waters would not have won.

Mixed-race GLA member David Kurten finished third with 2,201 votes (17.0%); Welsh businessman and libertarian John Rees-Evans fourth on 2,021 (15.6%); original bookies’ favourite Peter Whittle fifth on 1,413 (10.9%), after much of his support drained to Ms Waters; Rotherham parliamentary candidate Jane Collins a surprisingly poor sixth on 566 (4.4%) despite having been backed by two former rival candidates who withdrew in her favour; and space-travel enthusiast Aidan Powlesland seventh on 85 (0.65%).

All eyes now are on Nigel Farage and his financial backer Arron Banks, who had plans to launch a new breakaway movement within days if Waters or Whittle were elected. Their decision may now depend on whether Henry Bolton is able to secure constitutional changes reducing the role of the party’s executive and enhancing the leadership’s power.[spacer height=”20px”]

[spacer height=”20px”]The most likely short-term breakaway is now from the other side of the party: Anne Marie Waters and her Islam-obsessed faction.

One of Ms Waters’s leading allies, Paul Weston of Liberty GB, reacted badly to the result, tweeting: “UKIP needed a revolutionary leader, instead it got Mr Establishment Henry Bolton OBE who will do nothing whatsoever about Islam.”

Another close Waters associate, EDL founder Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (alias Tommy Robinson), similarly commented: “UKIP are now irrelevant when it comes to the biggest threat our country faces. We need a political voice to oppose Islam like Wilders & Le Pen.”

By contrast third-placed David Kurten and fellow candidate Jane Collins were quick to tweet their loyalty to the new leader.

Anne Marie Waters now favourite to win UKIP leadership

Anti-Islam campaigner Anne Marie Waters is now favourite to win the UKIP leadership. The result will be announced at the party’s conference in Torquay on 29th September.

Ms Waters is an associate of EDL founder Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (alias ‘Tommy Robinson’), and one of her campaign organisers is ex-BNP official Jack Buckby. Most of the UKIP establishment, including almost all of its MEPs, are set to quit if she wins the leadership, but ordinary members seem more receptive to her obsessional focus on Islam.

Despite Jack Buckby’s involvement in her campaign, Ms Waters has indicated that she would not allow former BNP or NF members to join UKIP (maintaining the present constitutional ban on such applicants).  However a Waters-led UKIP would almost certainly attract a flood of applications from supporters of the EDL and other anti-Islamist groups such as Pegida and Liberty GB.

For almost the entire campaign (since the resignation of Paul Nuttall just after the general election) GLA member Peter Whittle had been favourite to win UKIP’s leadership election, but heavy bets have been placed on Ms Waters in the last few days, making her the new favourite with bookmakers including Ladbrokes, Bet Fred, Coral and Betfair.

Rival candidate Henry Bolton (favoured by much of the UKIP establishment) seems to have overplayed his hand by warning last week that UKIP “could see a swing away from our traditional, secular values and stances; towards something far darker… we could easily slip towards the ideals of National Socialism. The last thing UKIP needs is to become the UK Nazi Party.”

UKIP members seems to have viewed this intervention (quite rightly) as ludicrous hype.  Anne Marie Waters is an Islam-obsessed crank, but she isn’t a “Nazi”!

UKIP on verge of split as Islam-obsessed faction attempts takeover

 

The dying United Kingdom Independence Party faces an imminent split as hundred of Islam-obsessed EDL supporters have joined the party in recent weeks, supporting the leadership campaign of former Labour Party activist Anne-Marie Waters, who is an ally of EDL founder ‘Tommy Robinson’. Her campaign is reportedly organised by former BNP activist Jack Buckby, who contested last year’s Batley & Spen by-election as candidate of Liberty GB, seen as a political arm of the EDL.

Most prominent figures in UKIP, including former leader Nigel Farage and almost all of the party’s MEPs, have indicated they will resign from the party if Ms Waters becomes leader.  One problem for the UKIP establishment is that the candidate most likely to defeat Ms Waters – former London mayoral candidate Peter Whittle – is almost equally obsessed by a militantly anti-Islam agenda.

There are suggestions that if Mr Whittle wins he will appoint Ms Waters as his deputy, a scenario which would again lead to a serious split.

 

 

Earlier this year a breakaway from UKIP was already being planned by Nigel Farage and his main financial backer Arron Banks.  This was to be called the Patriotic Alliance, and would have taken a clearer hard line on immigration than UKIP has previously espoused, though not a narrow and aggressive focus on Islam as advocated by Waters and Whittle: also it would have avoided the complications of UKIP’s democratic constitution, with power very much in the hands of Banks and Farage rather than an elected committee.

However the Banks-Farage plan has been delayed by June’s general election, rapid electoral collapse of UKIP, and growth of the EDL-style faction.

It now looks likely that UKIP could split into at least three segments.  The Waters-Whittle faction obsessed by opposing Islam; a libertarian faction inspired mainly by reducing state intervention and regulation post-Brexit, in pursuit of an extreme American-style version of Thatcherism; and the Banks-Farage group focused mainly on immigration and perhaps open to allowing members with past affiliation to nationalist parties and groups.

Nominations for the UKIP leadership election close on July 28th and the winner will be announced at the party’s national conference in Torquay on September 29th, but by then multiple splits will already be unavoidable.

Nigel Farage has already made clear that he will not stand: ‘Farageistes’ are likely to support either Welsh businessman John Rees-Evans, who finished third in the last UKIP contest won by Paul Nuttall last November, or David Coburn the leader of UKIP in Scotland. (Like rival candidates Peter Whittle and Anne-Marie Waters, Mr Coburn is openly homosexual.)

The libertarian faction (some of whom remind H&D of the ‘loony lib’ factions who operated inside the Federation of Conservative Students during the 1980s) are likely to support West Midlands businessman and MEP Bill Etheridge, a former Tory who also serves on Dudley Borough Council.

Some of the party mainstream who have personal objections to Mr Etheridge are likely to support Ben Walker, a councillor from the Bristol suburb of Bradley Stoke and another ex-Tory; or they might be tempted to burnish the party’s ‘non-racist’ credentials by electing UKIP’s first mixed race leader, London Assembly member David Kurten.

And as mentioned earlier, the increasing numbers of Islam-obsessed members will back one of the two current favourites, Peter Whittle or Anne Marie Waters.

Whoever wins, UKIP seems set on an irreversible course to make the BNP look credible!

Winding up the EDL

Heritage and Destiny has warned on many occasions during the past three or four years that the leadership of the English Defence League was manipulating its naive followers, and that the real EDL agenda was the opposite of genuine nationalism.

This week the movement’s two founders – Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (alias Tommy Robinson) and his cousin Kevin Carroll – dramatically resigned.  They have chosen to team up with the Quilliam Foundation, an “anti-extremist” group which is partly funded by the British state.  Quilliam’s leaders are defectors from the hardline Muslim group Hizb ut-Tahrir, but they now promote the full liberal agenda.

Notably Quilliam leader Ed Husain defends the State of Israel, calling for a “two state solution” and opposing campaigns to boycott Israeli products.

Husain is a natural ally for the EDL leadership, whose previous adventure in “democratic” politics was their takeover of the British Freedom Party, which promptly allied itself with the terrorist Jewish Defence League before collapsing in ignominy.  For H&D‘s detailed exposé of the BFP-JDL tie-up, click here and follow the link to download a PDF report.

There have been two fatal errors that regularly tempt nationalists. One is to abandon politics in favour of provocative street marches.  These can have a useful purpose, in showing that our enemies cannot command the streets – but some nationalist leaders remain trapped in a time warp, deluding themselves that a wave of street activism will carry them to power: a Mussolini-style March on London, or perhaps a Leeds beer hall putsch.

Many of the movement’s younger supporters find these more fun than the hard grind of pushing out election leaflets etc., but large scale street activities too often degenerate into displays of exactly those aspects of nationalism that most repel ordinary Britons, feeding a media stereotype of drunken yobbery.

The other fatal temptation for nationalist leaders is (by contrast) to become obsessed by developing a ‘populist’ agenda supposedly more acceptable to ordinary folk and approved by the media.  Thus such leaders insist that ideological consistency (or even basic political honesty) is unimportant.  Nationalists should find whatever aspect of popular prejudice and media hype is vaguely similar to our agenda, and should then relentlessly pursue that line.

The EDL leadership pursued both of these errors simultaneously!

On the one hand they promoted increasingly ill-disciplined mass demonstrations; while on the other they sought to purge the EDL of any “racist” associations, insisting that they were only opposed to militant Islam, and were positively in favour of multiracialism.  And needless to say, they were staunch “anti-fascists” and ultra-Zionists, allowing not one word of criticism of Israel.

And so for several years a generation of potential nationalist activists has been encouraged to waste time on increasingly pointless street demonstrations, annoying the general public, entertaining Searchlight and police photographers, and sometimes acquiring criminal records. Meanwhile making absolutely no political progress and poisoning their minds with an anti-British ideology.

The logical conclusion was reached this week.  The useful idiocy of the EDL has served its purpose, and its secret backers have decided to move on, leaving a tragic legacy of wasted effort and betrayal of the many decent patriots who flocked to the EDL banner.

They can’t say they weren’t warned: let us hope that whatever activists remain will learn from these catastrophic errors.

 

The EDL and “anti-fascists”: hypocrisy and gangsterism

The brutal murder of two policewomen near Manchester has highlighted both the blight of drug-fuelled organised crime and the hypocrisy of two supposedly opposed political factions, the English Defence League and the “anti-fascist” movement.

The EDL’s effective deputy leader Kevin Carroll has just launched an election campaign for Police Commissioner of Bedfordshire, in what is by far the highest profile activity so far by the EDL’s political front, the British Freedom Party.  Mr Carroll’s manifesto for this Police Commissioner election contains all the usual law and order cliches, including “aggressively targeting hard drug dealing …to significantly reduce street robberies and other drug-related offences.”  He promises that “as Commissioner I will institute a crackdown on possession of knives and offensive weapons, so that parents need no longer worry for their children’s safety when they are out.”  Lest anyone think that his own criminal conviction might make him unsuitable for the job, Mr Carroll boasts that “my experience of liasing [sic] with police forces across Britain in organising public events has strengthened my admiration for their dedication and professionalism.”

An article promoting Mr Carroll’s campaign uses rather longer words than we have come to expect from the EDL, but includes one especially unfortunate cliche: We need to insist that people in positions of authority do not “shoot the messenger”.

One of Mr Carroll’s followers decided to shoot two policewomen instead.

EDL supporter and Manchester City football hooligan Stephen Garvey was arrested on September 19th for conspiracy to murder.  The previous day two policewomen – Constables Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes – were lured to a home on the Hattersley estate, on the eastern fringe of Greater Manchester, where they faced a hail of gunfire and grenades.  Garvey’s friend and fellow gangster Dale Cregan has been arrested for the murders, as well as the earlier killings of two rival gangsters in the nearby areas of Droylsden and Clayton.

Garvey promoted the EDL on his Facebook page, and was involved in an EDL demonstration close to his home in Hyde on February 25th this year.  Kevin Carroll (now a Police Commissioner candidate) can be seen on this video speaking at the Hyde demonstration.

Some apologists for the EDL have already accused opponents of taking advantage of this EDL connection to gangland murder.  Yet the truth is that it is routine for EDL activists to be involved in violent crime.  Several of the EDL’s local organisers are career criminals, including drug dealers.  This is common knowledge to nationalists (including the present author) who have detailed knowledge of the serious crime problems blighting so many of our inner cities and council estates, and has been confirmed by retired police officers speaking to Heritage and Destiny on condition of anonymity.

Had genuine nationalist movements – even the BNP – had this sort of criminal in their ranks, the political wing of the police (i.e. Special Branch and other special intelligence units) would have targetted such people for heavy treatment, and the “anti-fascist” media would have exposed their every connection.

Yet the EDL has been given an easy ride.  For that matter the extraordinary ties between Paul Weston – leader of the EDL’s political wing – and an especially violent terrorist group based in Canada and the USA – the Jewish Defense League (JDL) – have been ignored by the mainstream media and the “ant-fascist” industry, despite being fully documented in a detailed article on this site.

Local sources suggest at present that Stephen Garvey was not a major player in the EDL – just an average grassroots supporter.  However this latest embarrassment is sure to cause further problems for Kevin Carroll’s Police Commissioner campaign, and raises more questions as to the long term viability of the British Freedom Party.

If the EDL is hypocritical about crime, what is one to make of the opportunistic article by Simon Cressy, of the Hope not Hate website (formerly Searchlight).  Mr Cressy highlighted the Daily Telegraph‘s revelation that “an EDL supporter has been arrested in relation to the murders of PC Nicola Hughes and PC Fiona Bone,” and we can expect him (or his associates) to make further capital from the affair when they discover Garvey’s involvement in the EDL’s Hyde demonstration.

Strangely “anti-fascists” are less keen to highlight their own close connections with notorious figures in Greater Manchester organised crime.  Coincidentally (or perhaps not) while the EDL gangsters and hooligans tend to support Manchester City (despite the club’s ownership by the Muslim ruling family of Abu Dhabi!), their “anti-fascist” opponents tend to be linked to the rival club Manchester United, and even produced an “anti-fascist” football fanzine, Red Attitude.

The most notorious “anti-fascist” gangsters in Greater Manchester were Salford’s Dessie Noonan, responsible for more than twenty gangland killings before his own murder in March 2005, and Manchester’s Paddy Logan, who like Noonan was involved with both Anti-Fascist Action and various Irish republican terrorist gangs before falling victim to an internal criminal feud, shot dead in his own bedroom in July 1999.

British Freedom Party hosted by terrorist group

An investigation by Heritage and Destiny has established disturbing links between a new British political party and a notoriously violent group in North America whose members have been convicted of numerous terrorist crimes, including murder.

Paul Weston, a former UKIP parliamentary candidate, became leader of the British Freedom Party last year and has sought to transform the BFP into the political wing of the English Defence League, backed by EDL leader Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (alias Tommy Robinson).

In February this year Weston travelled to Canada, where he was guest speaker at a meeting in Toronto organised by the Jewish Defense League (JDL).

The JDL’s name might seem similar to the EDL – and in fact a year ago they had EDL leader Robinson speaking at one of their meetings by video link – but its history is far more sinister and complex than the English group.

So what is the EDL?

The EDL is a multiracial, ultra-Zionist, Islamophobic organisation, most of whose activists are linked to various football gangs around the country. It developed during the spring of 2009 after a small Islamist demonstration in Luton against members of the Royal Anglian Regiment returning from Afghanistan. After grabbing the headlines with several large scale anti-Islamic demonstrations featuring Israeli flags and multiracial, anti-Muslim speakers, the EDL has now split into mutually antagonistic factions. The official EDL leader is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (alias Tommy Robinson) a former BNP member who lives in the village of Wilstead, near Bedford, where he is under police investigation for mortgage fraud.He is supported by BNP activist Chris Renton from Luton, who designed the EDL website, and a diverse crew of associates including a supposed Muslim named Amit and a fanatically anti-Muslim Sikh named Guramit Singh  (see photos below). Guramit is rumoured to be a relative of the BNP’s Sikh recruit Rajinder Singh.

The main rival faction is headed by Paul Ray, formerly described as media spokesman for the EDL, who has been one of its most pro-Israeli members. Since falling out with Renton and Yaxley-Lennon, Ray has spent much of his time in Malta, where he has forged a new alliance with German-born Nick Greger, purportedly a former ‘neo-nazi’ from Dresden. Greger first came to prominence as part of a television documentary by Donal Macintyre, one of Searchlight‘s favourite journalists. Previously unknown in the German nationalist movement, Greger was presented as a major player. Macintyre’s film followed his bizarre hero worship of the former Loyalist gangster Johnny Adair, who was expelled from the Ulster Defence Association for his drug dealing, treachery and murder of a fellow UDA brigadier. So far the Paul Ray faction of the EDL has won over a block of Bolton football hooligans, a development which may be related to the Adair family’s involvement in drug dealing in the Bolton area.

Bizarrely Ray and Greger believe that they can launch a rival EDL which is even more pro-Zionist than the current leadership, and they aim to recruit Adair as part of their leadership team. Perhaps all involved need reminding of a few facts. Like Ray and Greger, Adair has always been fanatically pro-Zionist. However he is better known as one of the most sinister terrorist gangsters ever to operate in the U.K., having abused his position on the Brigade Council of the Ulster Defence Association to build a criminal empire.

In 2002 Adair (shown left with actor Danny Dyer and his fellow gunman and gay lover Sam McCrory) was expelled from the UDA, and after ordering the murder of UDA brigadier John Gregg in February 2003, Adair and his cronies were forced to leave Northern Ireland. Since he is a bisexual and drug dealer as well as a pro-Zionist, Adair might think he has three good reasons to campaign against Islam. However he would be wise to think carefully about any overt involvement in a political organisation, since his former UDA comrades are unlikely to tolerate his return to any form of political prominence. Any remaining nationalists in the EDL should carefully consider the type of alliances they are being dragged into by their blind Islamophobia. Even before the EDL was created some of its founders took part in a disgraceful demonstration against Al-Quds Day in Trafalgar Square in 2009 that featured multiracial gangs of coked-up football hooligans alongside the Trotskyist Alliance for Workers Liberty, the Zionist Federation, and a CIA-backed group of Iranian monarchists. They repeated these antics in September 2010.

The first propaganda efforts of the Paul Ray faction will have won them few friends. In a photo issued on their website (left) Mr Ray poses with “ex-nazi” Nick Greger and Mr Greger’s Tanzanian wife, who is wearing a pro-Adair T-shirt. It might be a good start for these self-styled defenders of European civilisation to learn how to spell ‘Praetorian’!

Former ED Councillor Michael Johnson has been exploring possible collaboration with some elements of the EDL and may seek to build a new movement from its factional wreckage. Also seeking recruits at a recent EDL event in Halifax was a small team of National Front paper sellers including two ex-BNP organisers.

The Lancashire Evening Telegraph reports that ex-councillor Michael Johnson has been condemned as “a rather foolish individual” by the Conservative ex-leader of the council Colin Rigby, after Mr Johnson spoke at the EDL’s recent demonstration in Bradford.

The Home Secretary had banned the EDL from marching through Bradford and in the event the turnout was much lower than expected, partly because yet another rival group – the English Nationalist Alliance headed by BNP member Bill Baker – attracted a few hundred (including both NF and BNP members) to a simultaneous demo in Brighton.

The EDL remains divided (not least between members of rival ‘firms’ of football hooligans) but for the time being Yaxley-Lennon appears to have fought off the takeover bid from rivals Ray and Greger (see H&D Issue 41).

Armed police arrest EDL members in Dorset

Armed police this week arrested several members of the English Defence League after reports of a ‘bomb plot’ targetting a mosque in Bournemouth.

A police marksman shot out the tyre of a van driven by EDL member John Broomfield in the Dorset village of Corfe Castle. Mr Broomfield and six others were arrested, but later released without charge.

There has been no evidence so far presented of any bomb plot, but these arrests seem to indicate that the cosy relationship between the EDL and the British state may be over.

Various Sources, 5 Mar 2010: The English Defence League take to the streets of London protesting against Muslim extremism and in support of Geert Wilders, who attends the House of Lords to show his controversial film Fitna.

Anti-fascists scrabble around all week putting out emergency emails calling for support, but are heavily outnumbered by the EDL on the day, whose Divisions have travelled from all over the country to be there.

Given the significant nature, size and location of the demonstrations, there is, shockingly, little in the way of media coverage.
